Mother of Millions
On Assignment from Debra: dance with something growing.
10:00 p.m. A 5 minute dance in the study with the “mother of millions” plant that I grew up from tiny seedlings given to me by Leah. The edges of the leaves are covered in tiny seedlings, little propagations that scatter and plant themselves in adjacent spaces. The plants are so lush and green. The dance is leafing. Rising, streaming, expanding. Lifting. Extending. Lilting. The drawing is a first with pencil crayons (from a set that I’ve had since I was about 14). I’m feeling the swooping movement of the leafing through my arms. Arcing and surfacing across the leaf blade in the direction of growth.
Alice sits quietly on the armchair while I dance and draw. It is warm and pouring rain tonight.
