Drinking water and air
9:30 p.m. A 5 minute standing meditation in the study. I take a drink of chilled tap water from a tall glass. Several gulps. Facing north, I step back and close my eyes. I listen for how the water moves inside. (Does it move like a single body? Does it disperse? I wonder about the molecules, their affinities and attractions). The water gathers, pools, dissipates. I stand listening. My lungs open and suck in air. My throat is still moist so each breath feels like I am drinking up the air. I take four deep breaths. Body expands. Hands open, palms up. This body is so spent from a long day. Alice is downstairs. Water continues to fall from the sky in abundance. Gushes and flows.
