Memories of a runner
10:30 p.m. A 3 minute dance in the study. Facing north, I stand and take a long, slow drink of water. Body is thirsty after a run earlier this afternoon. I tune into the sounds outside. A neighbour is yelling out to the world, like he often does. Anger and violence in his voice. The water pools and flows in me. With eyes closed I remember the run today. I move with the memory of movement. Body moving in slow motion, gathering up a haecceity of movements circling Queens Park. Cars, people walking, people running, people cycling, squirrels scampering, rushing, stopping, traffic stalling, speeding, sun warming. The movements of this dance are small, intense, circular and rhythmic. Arms tucked into my sides, heels pulsing. Lilting forward, cycling energy. I re-member the run visualizing the patterns of movement through the park. Alice is elsewhere now. The sun came out from behind clouds as I ran today, warming the city.
