The wasp or the orchid? (Or, why it’s not possible to know who’s leading this dance)
10:30 p.m. A 5 minute dance in the study with the puppet. I haven’t moved with her for ages. She called out to me for a dance tonight. Picking her up, I re-member our dances. This time I felt as though she was leading. It was less a dance and more like a conversation. She moved like she was speaking, telling me things. With her hands and her eyes and her turning head. She danced me through the conversation. Her hand to her heart. Her hand to her head. Her hand reaching to my lips. Her hand moving across her body. She leans in and looks me in the eye. Who is leading this dance? It feels like the wasp and the orchid in D & G’s A Thousand Plateaus. There’s no way of knowing who initiated their dance. They don’t just evolve together–they “involve”. They gear into each other and call each other out to play. Alice is out on the patio enjoying this warm, gorgeous night.
