Rocks and Road
11:45 p.m. A one minute dance in a friend’s study. I’m in Sudbury and moved by the relation between rocks and the roads that cut and curve through them. Driving as curving. The sweep of movement has a lilt to it. The rocks are jagged, heaving, dense. The dance re-members this movement. Arms anxious. Jagged energy driving down in one arm bent in front of my body. But there’s another rhythm. A smooth, uprising lilt, coming from my side body. I hope Alice is okay. It was a sunny warm day with massive, weighty clouds off in the distance. I remember the awe of seeing the rocks again the day after I dance this. I could feel them even more intensely. I post the drawing two days later.
