Spider III
1:00 a.m. Home late from a party. In my room, I’m caught by surprise by a large spider crouching. We see each other at the same time and we both leap. It’s translucent brown body is thick and its legs lunge wide. I sit back and watch. In its stillness it seems to be pulsing with energy — minute movements of its legs and body lunging downwards. I remember the spider from a recent waking dream. She was eating a diamond and casting silk out of her spinneret. Alice is spooked by the city night on the patio and wants attention. The sun came out this afternoon. Later huge dark, striated clouds swept in and loomed heavy over the evening. Drawing posted the next day.
