Waiting
5:10 p.m. to 9:45 p.m. Terminal 3, Toronto Airport. Cultivating perseverance and stillness and modes of distraction. Holding still. Slowing down. Holding fort. Over the hours I sit and read for short bursts. Hunched over or upright. Unmoving. Intermittently I wander in aimless patterns among people densely milling near the arrivals port. Sometimes bodies are dispersed. Rushes of excitement as arriving passengers tumble joyfully into waiting arms. This delight abates into boredom. Waiting. Waiting until my arrival stumbles out of the gate and into my arms, as exhausted as I. There were big storms in between New York City and Toronto. Severe turbulence. Rain drizzles here.Alice with me in bed while I draw. Drawing posted the following morning.
