dance #216, spider in the zendo
Spider in the zendo
Friday July 24, 2009
10:00 p.m. A massive spider chills out in the rafters just outside the Zendo. A group of us leave the temple after a day of meditation and yoga. We spot her up by the motion sensor light. She is larger than any spider I’ve ever seen. A passerby tells us she’s a sun spider. She moves swift and boldly, checking out potential catch along her silk orb. The dance, later out under the stars behind Farlito, gathers in all the energy of the 5 hours of yoga practice today. Rooted. Side and back body muscles intricately articulated. I stand firm, arms high and angular, re-membering spider body movements. Tight, rapid, strong. The day as beautiful with wind and a sprinkle of rain. Gorgeous skies.
