7:00 p.m. Drummers and a dancer on Augusta. A crowd forms a wide ring around a dancer and his four drummers. The dancer moves as if anticipating the beats from the drummers. Syncopating. African dance rhythms. Body leaning forward, arms swinging, legs wide, feet pounding, hips rocking back, leaning into the rhythms. The dancer is calling the beats. Shyness holds me back from leaping into the rhythms. It’s a beautiful day.
