Night marigolds
10:40 p.m. A 5 minute sensing and dance on the patio in this loud, clear night air. In the darkness I greet the tall African marigolds blooming in a bushel in the corner of the garden. I touch the flowers. The blooms are wrinkly, almost sharp. Hands grazing the turgid, waxy stems, testing their thickness and vitality. I reach down in the darkness and breathe in the scent. The dance feels through the sensation. Arms lifting. Fingers and hands unfurling. Crinkly friction between fingers and hands. It is bright and green and lingers with me. Alice is with me as I draw. Loud and curious.
