Lake

8:30-9:30 p.m. A wander with my Mom down by the lake at dusk. Sun setting in deep oranges way off behind the trees. Cool air mixing with warm gusts. I stand on a rocky ledge looking out at the open water. Expanse. What catches me is the sound of water lapping, gushing, rhythmic and so gentle. Feeling that sound trickle through me. I hold myself back from moving with it — almost but not fully leaning into the churning and rushing. There are so many people around, and I keep my body still. The night is warm. So bright and hot today. Alice just wandered off. I rode along the lake to Sunnyside earlier. It shone in the late afternoon sun.
